Where Does Your Hot Water Come From?

If you’re a homeowner, you know where your hot water heater is. If you’re a renter, you most likely do too. Though knowing where your hot water comes from and actually knowing how it gets to your shower or sink or washer is a different story. Knowing is a big part about how much we take for granted when it comes to our hot water. Do you ever really think “How is my water hot?” while you’re doing the dishes or after you’ve washed a load of laundry? Chances are, probably not. Gas and Electric

Gas heaters come in many options for use including electricity, natural gas, propane, heating oil, solar, or other energy sources. Mostly, people either use gas or electric heaters. However, since 2006 and the tax credits were extended through 2016, the installation and use of solar energy gas heaters has increased and is projected to increase even through 2019. Even with the growing use of solar energy heaters, gas and electric heaters are still the most used and electric heaters are increasingly becoming more common than gas heaters.

Tank and Tankless

Beyond the types of options for using heaters, there are also tank and tankless heaters. Tank heaters or storage heaters store water and keep it hot and ready to use. Tankless heaters are different in the fact that the water is heated instantly when you need it and doesn’t run thorugh anything except for the system.

What Is Important

Whether you have gas or electric, tank or tankless, the odds are that having a working water heater is important to you and you’ll do what you need to do to make sure it’s working at all times.
